In Duffy´s psychiatric notes he makes numerous indications of written confirmation of his deal with police.

In court he claimed this deal was to do with his safety.

Once he began co-operating with police he would be taken to a police station and questioned. Whilst there he would be allowed the following:

- Visits from his mother

- Daily visits from counsel

- Choice of food from local restaurants.

- own choice of videos

- A telephone in his cell that received both incoming and outgoing calls.

- Full run of the custody suite with his cell door open so he could come and go as he pleased.

- Daily visits from Jenny Cutler, psychologist/counsellor.

All the above are unheard of in normal circumstances. All hint strongly that Duffy was offered a very persuasive package to name a person so as to clear up police files. In conclusion Duffy had a motive for naming Mr. David Mulcahy. Duffy also now seems to have a clear reason to co-operate with the police.
